LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Courtney Love has sued Geffen Records and two musicians from her late husband's band, Nirvana, to invalidate a 1997 agreement over the group's body of work, her lawyer said.

Love claims the deal with Nirvana bandmates David Grohl and Krist Novoselic was signed by her while she was distressed, and has resulted in mismanagement of the music by Geffen, said her attorney, Barry Cappello, Tuesday.

Geffen lawyers and Warren Rheaume, attorney for Grohl and Novoselic, did not immediately respond to telephone requests for comment.

Love said the company does ``not value the cultural heritage and financial value of (the band's) music enough to act competently in handling basic paperwork related to it,'' according to the claim filed last Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court.

She wants to regain sole control of the grunge rock group's master recordings, videos and other materials.

Love is the widow of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, who committed suicide in 1994.

She said the lawsuit was triggered by a song titled ``Monstersound'' by the German band Balloon, released by Geffen parent company Universal Music Group.

The song featured a sample of the Nirvana hit ``Smells Like Teen Spirit,'' which Love alleged was illegal use of the music.

Love and Geffen had already been at odds over her band, Hole, which the label accused of failing to deliver albums. She claims that contract with the company is unreasonable.
